CCTV cameras are now up and running in Derry City Cemetery, the Council have confirmed.

The temporary cameras have been installed following a spree of anti-social behaviour at the cemetery, including vandalism to headstones and graves, underage drinking, and a car being torched.

In the coming weeks the Council will consider locations across the cemetery for permanent CCTV cameras

A spokesperson for Derry City and Strabane District Council has confirmed that “temporary CCTV cameras have now been installed at a number of locations across the City Cemetery which are monitored remotely.

“Officers are currently scoping the installation of permanent camera positions with a report going forward to Council for consideration in September,” she added.
