A Clonmany man who drove his uninsured car less than two miles on the day he bought it has been fined and disqualified for four years.
Kieran McLoughlim, Cloontagh was charged with a number of driving offences at Carndonagh District Court after he was detected by Gardai at Cleagh, Clonmany on August 16th, 2014.
Defence solicitor Ray Lannon said McLoughlin had been working in England for a period of time and had bought a car with the intention of selling it on. On the day he bought it, he drove less than two miles to a restaurant in Clonmany and was detected. The court heard McLoughlin has one previous conviction for no insurance from 2014.
Judge Paul Kelly said McLoughlin was a “very foolish man” to drive uninsured after “leniency” was shown to him on the previous occasion.
He fined him 250 euro on the charge of no insurance and disqualified him for four years. He fined him a further 150 euro for driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver.
