A 26 year old mother of two has been disqualified from driving after she was found to have had been over the legal drink driving limit.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard on Monday how Kelly McGranaghan of Sunderland Park came to police attention following a road traffic collision at 7.20am on November 8 last year.

McGranaghan’s car was seen to mount the pavement at Moss Road and strike a lamppost, demolishing it.

McGranaghan was taken to hospital and while there a blood test was taken which revealed a reading of 123mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of blood - 43mgs in excess of the legal limit.

Her defence solicitor told the court his client had been drinking the night before and did not anticipate he blood alcohol levels still being over the limit the following morning.

He added that McGranaghan accepted her behaviour was “relatively reckless” but not intentional.

She was fined £350 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
