A 23-year-old Creggan man has appeared in court charged in connection with a ‘hit-and-run’ motorcycle collision in the estate at the weekend in which a seven year-old girl was seriously injured.

David Gerard McCloskey, of Creggan Heights, is charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop or remain at the scene of the accident and failing to report it.

He is further charged with having no insurance, no driving licence, failing to wear protective headgear and carrying an unauthorised pillion passenger. McCloskey appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was remanded in custody until July 4.

The young girl was knocked down by a motorbike at Creggan Heights in the city on Friday evening.
