Derry crime up 5%

Crime is up almost 5% in Derry, new police figures reveal.

The latest figures show that crime rose by 4.6% in 2012/13.

And the official statistics show that crimes like burglary (22%), fraud and forgery (64%) and drug offences (75%) showed massive increases over the 12 month period.

A total 8,177 crimes were committed in the PSNI’s Foyle Area Command - a rise of 357 on the previous year.

Over the same time frame, the PSNI detection rate rose from 26.3% in 2011/12 to 27% last year.
