A man who was caught driving while almost three times over the legal limit has been disqualified.
Kevin Stuart Potts, of Brunswick Road, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on March 11.
Derry Magistrate’s Court heard that police went to the Kilfennan area after receiving a report the 49-year-old was drink driving.
A breath test gave a reading of 98mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
Defence solicitor Michael McGee said his client had been at a friend’s house and had no intention of driving home. He added that no other road user “had been inconvenienced by this foolish act”.
Disqualifying Potts for 16 months, District Judge Barney McElholm said “I can’t ignore the fact it is almost three times over the limit”.
He also fined the 49-year-old £200.
