A Derry man on bail charged with being disorderly at Altnagelvin hospital was found lying drunk in a field on his own, Derry Magistrate’s Court has heard.
Paul Stewart (19), of Fergleen Park was arrested for breaching his bail conditions on the day before he was due to appear at the court to face a charge of disorderly behaviour.
The court heard that police found him lying on his own in a field and that he did not remember even being arrested for breach of bail by drinking and breaking his curfew.
The court heard that on August 31, Stewart was taken to Altnagelvin hospital by police who arrested him for “another matter” to allow for treatment to a gash on his head. He became disruptive in the accident and emergency department and was verbally abuse to nursing staff in front of young children and other patients.
The court heard that the offence put him in breach of a suspended sentence imposed for other public order offences in September 2012.
District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a three month prison sentence to run consecutively with a four month sentence from 2012.
“Mouthing obscenities to nursing staff is totally unacceptable,” he said.
