Hopes of finding missing man Dean Patton are “fading every day”, his uncle Gerard Patton said yesterday.

His Derry relatives remain in Dean’s home town of Portrush as the search to find him continues on land and sea.

The 24 year-old was last seen in Portrush on Tuesday, July 24 and he has not contacted family or friends since. His father John, from Creggan’s Eastway Gardens in Derry, mother Linda and 14 year-old sister Stephanie are “living a nightmare”, his uncle John told the ‘Journal’ yesterday.

“There have been several suspected sightings of Dean, one of which was in Donegal.”Someone phoned the Gardai to say they may have saw him in Letterkenny at the weekend. If he is in Donegal we’re hoping that someone might see the paper and recognise him,” his uncle Gerard said.

Despite the suspected sightings, his family are struggling to remain positive. “Hopes are fading every day - the coastguard has been searching the coast and we’re wondering is he in there. We are beginning to fall apart, we’ve never come across anything as terrible as this in our lives.”

He said that Dean’s disappearance was “completely out of character”.

Dean attended a party in Portrush on the night of Monday, July 23. He was last seen in the town at around 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Since he was reported missing, Dean has not withdrawn money from his bank account, telephoned anyone or returned to the flat he moved into from his parents’ home just two weeks before he went missing.

Family members, friends and relatives have erected hundreds of posters of Dean around Northern Ireland in the hope that someone may have information on his whereabouts.

Police are asking people in the Portrush area to check all sheds, garages and outhouses.

However, the missing man’s uncle has said more could be done in the search for Dean.

“The police aren’t doing enough, in my opinion. We have got calls from the police about apparent sightings and then heard nothing further. Not even another phone call about it.”

Dean is described as being approximately 6 feet tall with dark hair and a tanned complexion. When he was last seen he was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.
