A woman who assaulted a doctor and three nurses in Altnagelvin Hospital has been jailed for five months.

Julie-Anne Fenton, of Baltimore House, Bridge Street, pleaded guilty to common assault and disorderly behaviour on April 26.

No details of the assaults were opened to the court.

A defence solicitor said the 23-year-old has serious mental health problems and has been in custody for the last three months.

He handed a psychologist’s report into the court which outlined Fenton’s issues.

District Judge Barney McElholm said this report points out the ‘lack of suitable mental health legislation in this jurisdiction and the lack of suitable facilities’ for people like Fenton.

He said this is ‘unacceptable’ in the twenty first century ad the legislation ‘needs to be looked at’.
