A man who was disorderly outside a music event in Dery at the weekend has been jailed for four months. Jason Murphy, of Abbeydale in the Waterside, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on August 15. The incident occurred outside Ebrington Square as the MTV Crashes event was taking place.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard police were on patrol in the area and saw the 23-year-old.

They believed he had breached bail conditions by consuming alcohol.

Murphy became abusive and repeatedly shouting at the officers ‘do you think I give a f***?’

There were a number of children in the area at the time who were attending the music event.

Murphy is currently on bail pending an appeal of a prison sentence for other incidents of disorderly behaviour.

One of these was ‘aggravated by hate’.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle told the court his client did not understand the alcohol condition because he has ‘difficulty reading and writing’.

He said it is ‘regrettable’ Murphy committed a further offence ‘particularly at an event which was well attended and where there were no other incidents’.

District Judge Barney McElholm jailed the 23-year-old for four months.
