A 29-year-old man who stole Apple products from a neighbour has been jailed for nine months.
Simon James Whiteman, of Rossnagalliagh, pleaded guilty to the theft of almost £750 worth of Apple products between December 15, last year and January 30.
Derry Magistrates Court heard Whiteman agreed to accept delivery of a parcel for a neighbour.
The delivery driver called with the neighbour the following day and when he asked about the parcel was told they hadn’t received it.
It was revealed the delivery driver had to pay for the goods out of his wages.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said it was a ‘very opportunistic offence’ and when temptation came his way he couldn’t resist it.
Jailing Whiteman, District Judge Barney McElholm said it was a ‘despicable, mean, nasty and low offence’ which left the delivery driver to repay the cost of it.
