Judge bans schoolgirl from Derry city centre

A schoolgirl who admitted a number of theft offences has been banned from entering the city centre as part of her bail conditions.

Marie Louise Stokes, of Marianus Park, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft and handling stolen goods between August 4, 2009 and January 20, this year.

Among the items the 18-year-old admitted stealing were a TV and a satellite navigation system from Tesco, cosmetics, toys and electrical equipment from local pharmacies.

Sentencing was adjourned until April 7 for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.

Stokes was released on her own bail of £300 and banned from the city centre, any retail park and all the shops she admitted stealing from.

She will appear in court again next month.
