A footballer who knocked out another man’s teeth during a Sunday league match has been ordered to complete 200 hours community service.
Calvin Lee McCallion, of Leafair Park, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on October 28, last year.
Derry Magistrates Court heard the 22-year-old and a player on the opposing team had an argument over possession of the ball. McCallion then punched the other man. Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the incident was a ‘one off’ and led to his client being suspended from his team for a period of time.
District Judge Barney McElholm said “there’s no place for behaviour like this on the football pitch” and ordered McCallion to pay £250 compensation.
