A man and a woman from Derry have been charged with possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating dissident terrorist activity have charged a 39 year-old man and a 32 year-old woman with a number of terrorist offences.

“The two suspects, who were arrested on Monday in Derry, both face charges of possession of explosives with intent to endanger life and possession of items for an act of terrorism.

“The 39 year-old man faces a further charge of collecting material last year likely to be of use to terrorists.”

They are both due to appear at Derry Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning, Saturday 15th June.

The police spokesperson added: “As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”

The charges follow a security operation at Beechwood Avenue on Derry’s cityside on Monday.
