A man has pleaded guilty to raping a 15-year-old girl in the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College.
Adam Titheridge, whose address was given on court papers as Broom Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, had initially denied charges of rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
However, one day into his trial at Derry Crown Court, the 20-year-old applied to be rearraigned and entered guilty pleas to both charges.
They relate to an incident in the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College Junior School on July 8, last year.
The victim’s parents were in court for the rearraignment and the victim was appearing via videolink.
Judge Stephen Fowler directed the jury of eight men and four women to find Titheridge guilty by confession to the charges.
The girl’s parents hugged after the 20-year-old changed his plea.
Sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report and victim impact reports to be compiled.
Judge Fowler told Titheridge he had admitted a “disgraceful piece of conduct” and would be remanded in custody to appear in court again on January 18.
He also ordered the 20-year-old to sign the sex offenders register.
