A man has been repeatedly punched in the face after being dragged off one of Derry’s busiest streets in broad daylight.

A PSNI spokeswoman says the assault on the 22-year-old happened at around 4:30pm on April 16 as he was walking from Waterloo Place in the direction of Strand Road.

“As he passed the pedestrian entrance of Victoria Car park, he was grabbed from behind and pulled into the car park where he was repeatedly punched in the face,” the spokesman says

“The assailant walked off in the direction of Waterloo Place. He is described as being in his mid twenties, 5’ 10” tall with short black hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue hoody zipped up.”

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area on Monday afternoon and who may have information to contact police at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers in on 0800 555 111.
