Man in court charged with attempted murder of police officer

A Lurgan man has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder a police officer.

Sean McVeigh, of Victoria Street, Lurgan, is further charged with possession of Semtex with intent to endanger life on June 16, last year.

The charges are connected to a device placed under a police officers car in Glenrandel, Eglinton.

The 35-year-old refused to stand when the charges were put to him.

There was no application for bail.

McVeigh was remanded in custody to appear in court again via videolink on May 16.

As the defendant was led from the dock, people in the public gallery began to cheer and clap.
