A man has been shot in St Johnston, Co Donegal.

Garda say the 39 year old man was shot by two armed and masked men at a house in Legnatraw.

A spokesman says the man was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General hospital where his condition is described as not life threatening.

A 34-year-old woman who was in the house at the time of the shooting was uninjured.

“The scene was preserved for a technical examination.

“A silver 4x4 was located at Moness, a townsland approximately 1 mile from the scene of the shooting shortly after the incident. The 4x4 has been preserved for technical examination,” the spokesman says.

The man is understood to be a native of Derry who had been living in the rented house for a number of months.

Gardai in Letterkenny are appealing to any witnesses or anyone who may have information or may have seen unusual activity (between 9pm and 11pm on the 1st May) around the the vicinity of Legnatraw or around Moness where the 4x4 was located to contact them in Letterkenny on 074 9167100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
