Donegal County Council have confirmed they will host a speical event in memory of the late Buncrana Garda Gary McLoughlin.
Garda McLoughlin tragically lost his life while on duty in Burt in December 2009 when Raphoe man Martin McDermott crashed into his patrol car after a high-speed chase.
The 24 year-old garda, who was orginally from Leitrim, had been based at Buncrana Garda Station and his passing stunned the entire local community.
Bridgend-based councillor, Jack Murray, who asked the council to hold the event last July, has welcomed the news.
“The death of a young man who was working to serve and protect the people of Donegal shocked everyone in the county. It is fitting that we pay tribute to him and his family as was done previously after the death of Garda McCallion in Letterkenny.”
The event takes place in the County House, Lifford, at 2pm on May 4.
