Two men have been sentenced for stealing two fire extinguishers during a house party more than two years ago.

Sean Green, of Ballymagowan Avenue and 23-year-old Cavan White, from Rossnagalliagh, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a window in December 2012.

They also admitted charges of theft and handling stolen goods in relation to two fire extinguishers.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the two men were at a house party in Bayview terrace and they smashed a window. They also took two fire extinguishers from the property.

Compensation was sought in the case of over £400.

A defence solicitor for Green told the court his client had brought £250 with him.

He was ordered to complete 120 hours community service and ordered to pay £232 compensation.

The court heard that White has a number of matters pending and his criminal record is ‘linked to cannabis use’.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the 23-year-old has sought counselling in relation to this and is now on a work placement scheme.

White received a four month sentence suspended for two years. He was also ordered to pay £232 compensation.
