A motorist drove a car without insurance as his own had broken down, Buncrana District Court has heard.
Piotr Zebala, 30 Oakfield, Buncrana, appeared at Buncrana District Court last week, at which he told Judge Paul Kelly that he was driving his mother’s car at Cockhill Road, Buncrana on 8th November 2013 as his own had broken down.
Inspector David Murphy told the court Zebala was detected after Garda McLoone attended a minor road traffic collision at Cockhill road. She made a demand of Zebala to produce his documentation and he failed to do so.
The court heard Zebala has previous convictions for dangerous driving in 2010, for which he was fined and disqualified for one year. He was also disqualified for two years and one day on a second charge.
Zebala told Judge Kelly he was not working at the moment.
Judge Kelly fined Zebala 100 euro and told him he would not impose a disqualification on this occasion due to “the circumstances.”
He warned Zebala that if he came before him again on a no insurance charge, he would face a disqualification.
Zebala replied: “This is the last time.”
Judge Kelly struck out a charge of failing to produce insurance.
