MS sufferer used cannabis for pain relief

Derry Magistrate’s Court has heard how a man suffering from MS used cannabis for pain relief and kept it in his car as there were children in the house.

Gareth Campbell (34) of 23, Bracken Park in Derry admitted possessing the drugs on December 30.

The court was told that police observed a car parked at Prehen and approached it.

When they did they could smell cannabis and asked Campbell had he drugs and he handed them a small amount of cannabis.

Defence barrister Ms Nicola Rountree said her client suffered from MS and used cannabis for pain relief as it was the only thing that seemed to work.

She said he kept his cannabis in the car as there were children in the house.

Campbell was sentenced to a fine of £120.
