Mum’s appeal after heartless thieves steal daughter’s Christmas bicycle

Heartless thieves have stolen a bicycle given to a nine year-old Derry girl for Christmas.

Kayleigh Mooney had left her bike in her back garden to inside for tea but when she returned it had gone. Mum Melissa said she was “heartbroken” for her daughter’s loss. She witnessed a man she later believed to be the thief with a bike when she was returning from a local shop to her Carnhill home last Sunday night. As it was dark she couldn’t be sure that the bicycle was her daughter’s or identify the man but she noted that he was acting “very suspiciously”. She went indoors and asked the schoolgirl where her bicycle was and soon discovered it had been stolen. “It took me four months to pay for that bike and she got it for Christmas; she only had it for three weeks. She keeps asking me when she’s getting her bike back and I don’t know how to tell her, my heart is breaking for her.”

Melissa appealed for anyone who is offered the £180 bicycle for sale or who knows its whereabouts to call the police on 0845 600 8000 or the ‘Journal’ on 028 71 272250. The make of the bicycle is not known but it is described as having a white frame with a purple splash on the top bar and black handle bars and wheels.
