'˜No place for guns on our streets' - Campbell

Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell has warned that there is no place for guns on the streets of Derry following a second shooting in two days.

Colr. Campbell was speaking after a 48-year-old man was shot in both legs in the Glenowen Park area of the city on Wednesday night.

Colr. Campbell said: “This is a very worrying development, it’s the second shooting in the city in a week.

“It’s important to repeat the message that there is no place for guns on the streets of our city.

“The community does not want this and the people behind these actions need to stop.”

Detectives have appealed for information following, the shooting, which was reported to police shortly after 9pm on Wednesday.

The victim of the attack was taken from the scene to hospital and is currently being treated for his injuries.

This is the second shooting to have occurred in Derry in two days.

On Monday evening a 23-year-old man was shot once in the leg inside a bookmakers at Central Drive in Creggan.

Detectives have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident at Glenowen or who has information about the shooting to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1141 of the 29/3 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
