Overnight assault leaves man in hospital

Two car loads of people are alleged to have been involved in an assault in Derry last night.

Detectives at Strand Road in Derry are now appealing for information about the assault on a man in the Glenabbey area.

Shortly before midnight on Monday, May 25, police received a report of a fight in progress.

The investigating officer said a 31-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries and a suspected broken ankle.

A motive for the attack is currently under investigation.

Police said a number of assailants are alleged to have been involved in the fracas.

They are reported to have gone to the scene in a Mazda car and a Suzuki car.
