Police in Derry say a spate of attempted thefts and burglaries across the city overnight are linked.

Police received several reports of thefts, attempted break-ins, burglaries and suspicious activity in Talbot Park, Kingsfort Park, Gleneagles, Hampstead Park, Lisnarea Avenue and Shantallow Avenue.

A PSNI spokeswoman says police believe all the incidents are linked.

“Two youths wearing hoodie tops, one a grey colour and the other a dark colour were seen at some of the locations at the time of the incidents,” she says.

“A house at Lisnarea Avenue was broken into and car keys stolen. A grey coloured Vauxhall Zafira car, registration OUI 9451 was stolen and Police are asking anyone who sees the vehicle to report it immediately. A white coloured Berlingo van was also stolen but was recovered by Police.

“A house at Talbot Park was also broken into and a wallet with credit cards were stolen. A house at Hampstead Park was broken into and two youths wearing hoodie tops were confronted by the owner inside the house before they fled.

“Police believe two houses at Gleneagles were broken into, a garage entered at Talbot Park and vehicles broken into at Hampstead Park. The window of a car was smashed at Shantallow Avenue and two youths were seen running off.”

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity between midnight and 6.30am this morning, in particular if anyone saw two youths wearing hoodies in these areas to contact police at Strand Road station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
