A man and woman are to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of child cruelty.
The defendants, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, are also charged with perverting the course of justice by providing a false account about how the alleged injured party sustained injuries.
The offences were allegedly committed between August 10 and October 23, 2010.
During a brief hearing at the local magistrate’s court this morning, the 24-year-old man and 22-year-old woman declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence.
Defence solicitors Paddy MacDermott and Derwin Harvey accepted there is a prima facie case for their clients to answer.
The man was remanded in custody and the woman was released on bail to appear in court again next month.
