Arsonists targeted the home of two Creggan pensioners in the early hours of Friday morning. Toilet rolls and newspapers were pushed through the letterbox and set alight at 3.45am

Creggan Councillor, Kevin Campbell said the two 75 year old Balbane Pass residents ‘could have been burned to death in their beds.”

Mrs. Anna Kelly and her husband Patrick were asleep when Anna heard the letterbox rattle. Going to investigate she opened the front door and was engulfed in smoke. Speaking to the ‘Journal’ Anna said; “I’ve been living in Creggan from I was 13 years old and in this street for over 40 years without a problem.”

Appealing for the attacks to halt, Councillor Campbell described the incident as an“absolute scandal.”
