Petrol bomb attacks in Derry’s Bogside

Police are investigating two petrol bombs attacks in Derry’s Bogside on Saturday, one of which destroyed a mini-bus belonging to a Belfast youth club,

The Fire Service attended the scene at Pilot’s Row after a minibus, used to transport members and supporters of the Docker’s Boxing Club to an event in the Bogside, was set ablaze.

The incident occurred at approximately 11pm.

An earlier attack saw police targeted with a petrol bomb near the Lecky Road fly-over. A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers were unable to attend immediately, due to a petrol bombing earlier in the evening, however further enquiries have since been carried out.”

Local councillor, Sinn Fein’s Colly Kelly condemned those responsible: “I condemn outright whoever was behind setting fire to this bus.

“They are totally unrepresentative of the people of this area.

“It’s very disappointing that the efforts of all those working to provide facilities for our young people can potentially be wrecked by the actions of an unrepresentative few.”
