Police in Derry are hunting two men - one with a rosary beads tattoo on his arm and a holy Cross tattooed on his neck - after an assault in which a man was punched, kicked and hit over the head with a bottle.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the assault happened at a grassy area close to a football pitch between Leafair and Fern Park around 7am on July 26.

She said: “The first man is described as being in his late teens/early 20s and of a slim build with black spiky hair. He was wearing a white Converse t-shirt, blue jeans and Nike Air Max trainers. He also had a large scar on the right side of his neck towards the back and a sleeve tattoo covering his right arm.

“The second male had blond hair shaved at the sides and back but longer on top, and was wearing a blue Adidas t-shirt and jeans. He also had piercings in his left ear including a ‘stretcher’ in his left ear lobe, a tattoo of a holy cross on the left side of his neck and a rosary beads tattoo on the inside of his left forearm.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
