Detectives at Strand road are today investigating an assault on a female in Creggan during the early hours of this morning.

Detectives are investigating following a report they received shortly before 5:00am this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson explained: “It was reported that a woman, aged in her 30’s, was assaulted in the Creggan area. She was taken to hospital for treatment for a number of stab wounds to her abdomen and bruising to her face. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A 36-years-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”

Detective Inspector Conor McStravick is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have any information which they believe may assist with the investigation to contact Detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
