Derry Magistrate’s Court has heard how a man hit a car in the Diamond area of the city before making off and then crashed into a roundabout.

Owen Orr (21) of Tullyverry Drive in Greysteel admitted a series of driving offences that occurred on July 17 last.

The court heard that a police patrol came across a vehicle crashed into the roundabout at Queen’s Quay.

Police were told that the driver had made off and was standing in the Strand Road nearby.

Police were also told by a member of the public that he had been parked in the Diamond area when Orr’s car had struck him and made off.

He had followed and saw Orr crash into the roundabout.

The police were told that Orr had run into a local bar and exited by a different door.

When police arrested Orr a small bag of white powder was found.

Orr was also found to be over the legal limit for driving.

At interview Orr admitted taking the car without permission and said he had come to collect what he thought were legal highs from someone he knew.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Orr will appear again on April 24.
