A priest who was found to have been four times over the drink driving limit after his crashed car was found on the outskirts of Derry earlier this year was fined £300 and had ten penalty points endorsed on his licence at the city’s Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Fr. Edward McGuinness (56), from Irish Green Street in Limavady, Co. Derry, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Skeoge Road on April 6.
A prosecution solicitor told the court the defendant’s car first collided with a roundabout before he came to a stop against the gates of the Donegal Prime Fish Depot.
A defence barrister told the court that Fr. McGuinness had no previous criminal record before this incident, which he described as “unfortunate”.
