‘Public nuisance’ refused bail by judge at Derry court

A judge at a Derry court this week refused to release a Limavady man he called a ‘public menace’ on bail.

Philip O’Kane, whose address was given as Benevenagh Drive, Limavady is charged with disorderly behaviour on July 24.

Derry Magistrates Court heard yesterday that the 59-year-old was standing outside a Limavady supermarket.

The court heard O’Kane grabbed a member of the public and refused to let him go.

Refusing bail yesterday, District Judge Barney McElholm said O’Kane is a ‘public menace’ and ‘why should people be subjected to this behaviour’.
