A 55-year-old Derry man has denied committing a sex offence three decades ago. John Quigley, of Maybrook Mews, pleaded not guilty to inciting a boy to commit an act of gross indecency between June 1 and December 2, 1980.

Defence counsel Ivor McAteer told Derry Court that applications will be made under the International Co-operation Act for records held in the Republic of Ireland and the Vatican. As a result, the length of trial is “almost impossible to estimate”. Quigley was released on continuing bail and the case will be mentioned again on August 20.
