Police are at the scene of a second security alert in Derry’s Waterside this afternoon. The alert in Gobnascale follows a controlled explosion which was carried out in the Mimosa Court area after 10:00am this morning.

Army technical officers are currently at the second scene and it’s understood a number of homes in an area between Strabane Old Road and Trench Road have been evacuated. A police spokesperson said:

“The report of a suspicious object was made at around 11:10am. The YMCA centre at Drumahoe remains open for residents who have been evacuated from their homes and motorists are advised to avoid the Strabane Old Road area of the city if possible.”
