An attack on a local taxi driver has been condemned by Derry SDLP Foyle MLA, Pat Ramsey.

Mr Ramsey hit out at those who attacked the taxi driver yesterday morning, and called on anyone with information to contact the PSNI.

The Foyle MLA said this morning: “I have been made aware of an incident in the early hours of Monday morning whereby a local taxi driver was physically attacked when taking a fare from Bridgend to Strabane. He was physically restrained by those in his vehicle before they fled without paying, leaving the driver in a state of shock at his ordeal.

“Any attack on a member of the taxi profession or any other public service is senseless, taxi drivers often work in difficult circumstances and their safety should be a concern for all throughout the city and beyond.”

Mr Ramsey urged anyone with information about the attack to report it to their local PSNI.

“I want to send my best wishes to the driver involved in this incident, and wish him a speedy recovery,” he added.
