A man who was abusive to police has received a suspended sentence.

Anthony Joseph McErlane, of Glentaise Drive, Ballycastle, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on June 15, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard police spoke to a group of people drinking alcohol in the Foyle Road area.

The 47-year-old told police to ‘f*** off’ when he was asked to move on from the area.

He also swore at police when they asked him for his details.

District Judge Barney McElholm suspended a two month jail sentence for a year.
