Those who fired shots at a house with a young girl inside at Derry’s Waterside overnight were today condemned.
The incident happened in the Currynierin area and it is understood that four shots were fired through the living room window.
A PSNI spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a shooting incident in the Whitethorn Drive area of Derry last night, Thursday 15 October.
“Shortly after 10.45pm it was reported that a number of shots had been fired through the window of a house in the area.
“The occupants, a couple and their young daughter, who were in the house at the time were not injured.”
Sinn Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson condemned the incident.
Colr. Jackson said: “There can be no place for guns on the streets of our city.
“The people who carried out this attack need to explain to the local community the rationale for their actions.
We are in a new era, we are creating a new society for the younger generation and the people of Derry just want these attacks to stop.
I would appeal for anyone with any information on this attack to bring it forward to the PSNI straight away.”
Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information about the incident to contact Detectives in Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
