Shouted ‘up the ra’ at police

A Greysteel man who shouted “up the ra, you black b*******” at police has been fined at Limavady Magistrate’s Court.

Shan Barry Duffy, of St Columba’s Walk, Greysteel admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour.

The court heard that Duffy was arrested at around 2.30am on September 9 in Limavady town centre.

He shouted the abuse as a police mobile patrol drove past him.

The windows on the police vehicle were up but he shouted the abuse “so loud it could be heard” by officers inside.

A defence solicitor said the defendant was out to celebrate his 19th birthday. He said it was the first time his client, who is unemployed, had appeared in court for any offence.

Duffy was fined £500.
