Struck pedestrian while reversing

A twenty year old Derry man has been disqualified from driving and fined £200 after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention.

Aidan McLaughlin of 51 Prehen Park was before Derry Magistrate’s Court yesterday following an incident on Derry’s Strand Road on April 23 of this year.

The court was told that a pedestrian was struck by the defendant’s red peugeot car as he reversed into a parking space.

Three witnesses, including two traffic patrol officers, reported that McLaughlin was distracted as he was shouting at another pedestrian while reversing

District Judge Austin Kennedy heard the injured party required hospital treatment for soft tissue injury to her left leg and left hip.

Judge Kennedy said “I give you credit for your pleading guilty but I fine you £200 and disqualify you from driving for one month.”
