A teenager who admitted stealing a lawnmower from a gun club has been jailed for five months.
Patrick Bernard Tracey, of 20 Hollymount Park, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft relating to an incident at Burndennet Gun Club on September 12, 2010.
Derry Magistrates Court heard glass fragments found on the teen’s shoes connected him to the burglary and he was arrested.
DUring police interview, the 19 year-old said he had been drinking that day and couldn’t remember what had happened.
A defence solicitor said her client had “little memory of the events, however he accepts full responsibility”.
She said Tracey was out with friends and they were “egging each other on”.
The solicitor added that the time the teen has spent on remand has been a “wake up call to him.”
Jailing Tracey, District Judge Barney McElholm said burglary is an “extremely serious matter.”
