A teenager has been jailed for five months for breaking the windows of a local supermarket.

David Nixon, of 115 Kinsale Park, pleaded guilty to criminal damage on March 8.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard the 18-year-old was seen by security staff at the Tesco Express, Crescent Link, picking something up from the ground.

He threw the item at the glass door four times, causing it to smash.

It was revealed to the court Nixon has previous convictions for smashing glass at the same store.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the offences “are more of a nuisance than any planned action.”
