Teen who spat and swore at police gets three months in jail

A teenager who was disorderly in the Pennyburn area has been jailed for three months.

Roy Cunningham, whose address was given as Centenary House, Victoria Street, Belfast, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour, assault on police and criminal damage. The charges relate to an incident on the Racecourse Road on August 23.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the 19-year-old was drunk and when police arrived he became agitated. He called officers ‘scumbags’ and told them to ‘f*** 0ff’. The court was told Cunningham then struggled with officers and spat on one of their legs.

It was revealed the teen, who has a difficulty with alcohol, had breached a suspended sentence for similar offences.
