People living in the Springtown Road area of Derry have been warned about a spate of burglaries in the area.

Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley says residents should “be vigilant and careful and not to allow themselves to become the next victims”.

“In recent times there has been a considerable increase in the number of homes and garages being targeted for burglary in the Springtown Road area.

In many of these cases the thieves have been able to gain access through unlocked doors and windows.

“It is clear that those responsible for these crimes are organised and thorough and may indeed be watching homes for a period before carrying out these burglaries.

“Those involved in this criminality do not care who they target and I would appeal to residents in the Springtown Road area to be vigilant and careful and not to allow themselves to become the next victims.”
