A 56 year old Derry man will be arraigned at Derry Crown Court to face two charges of rape, alleged to have happened in 1988.

William Simpson of Pennethorne Court appeared at the city’s Magistrate’s Court today for a Preliminary Inquiry in relation to the offences.

The two counts relate to the same alleged injured party and are alleged to have happened on unknown dates between January 1 and December 30, 1988 in Craigavon.

A representative of the PPS told the court there was a case to answer.

When asked if he wished to make any statement or call witnesses, Simpson replied: “Not at this stage”.

Simpson’s arraignment will take place on August 28.
