Two men are to stand trial at Derry Crown Court charged in connection with the discovery of weapons.

Gary Pius McPhillips, of Hawkin Street, faces a total of eleven charges including possession of hand grenades, a sub-machine gun and ammunition.

The 30-year-old is also accused of possessing ecstasy and mephedrone with intent to supply on December 20, 2012.

His co-accused, 27-year-old Ryan O’Reilly, of Meadowbank Court, is charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a handgun without a certificate between January 2005 and December 2012.

Both men declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence on their own behalf.

Defence solicitors for the defendants, Paddy MacDermott and Kevin Casey, accepted there is a case for their clients to answer.

McPhillips and O’Reilly were remanded in custody and will appear at the crown court on March 31.
