A woman who admitted possessing a lock knife in the Waterside area of the city has been jailed for three months.

Kerri Leeann Ogilby, whose address was given on court papers as Simon Community,Bonds Hill, pleaded guilty to possessing an article with a blade and resisting police on August 21.

Derry Magistrates Court heard the 31-year-old was standing in the street holding the knife when police arrived.

She was arrested and struggled violently with the officers.

During interview, Ogilby claimed she had been drinking with her partner who ‘habitually carries a knife’ and she took it off him.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin told the court his client has a number of difficulties.

He added that Ogilby’s partner is well known to the court and while it is not a defence, her story has a ‘ring of truth about it’.

Jailing the 31-year-old, District Judge Barney McElholm also ordered the destruction of the knife.
