A woman who stole a body camera worn by door staff has received a conditional discharge.

Laura Louise Browne, of Rossnagalliagh, pleaded guilty to one charge of theft on March 26, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that door staff in the Brunswick Moviebowl intervened in an altercation and the body camera worn by one of them fell off.

Browne took the camera, worth £500, and police discovered it in her handbag a short time later.

During police interview, Browne claimed she had dropped her handbag on the ground several times during the altercation.

The 20-year-old said she didn’t know the camera was in her bag or who put it there.

Defence solicitor Ciaran McGuinness said his client has ‘very little recollection’ of the incident.

He said there was no attempt to conceal the camera and it was not Browne’s intention to sell it.

District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a conditional discharge for 18 months.
