'Criminal' turned Missionary in Fahan

Missionary and author, John Cartledge, will be giving a talk on his life and beliefs at Fahan Presbyterian Church on Sunday May 9th.

Having spent the last eight years serving God as a missionary in Ghana, he previously was a criminal and an alcoholic for some thirty years. He has also written a book called “Alcohol Thriller or Killer”.

Co-author was John Hayes, a former senior legal adviser to Magistrates at Warrington for 38 years. Mr. Cartledge had mostly negative experiences in his early encounters with the court clerk. These are outlined in the discussion. Having sought help for his addiction, the former Manchester City signed footballer attended Bethesda Evangelical Church at Stockton Heath, Warrington - and again came face-to-face with John Hayes, an elder and musical director at the church.

He became a committed Christian, a missionary in Africa and now runs a Christian bookshop which he built at Tamale, in Ghana, where he now lives with his wife, Akua and their son, Sean.

Over a period of 18 months he has collaborated with John Hayes on their book "Alcohol - Thriller or Killer".

The discussion commences in the Church at 8pm on Sunday 9th May. Everyone will be made most welcome. Tea will be served afterwards in the Hall. There will also be a collection for the work in Ghana.
